The book is based on a post-apocalyptic world where a city is divided into five factions, based on your beliefs on what used to cause war.
Erudite: The faction for the smart. They believed foolishness caused war.
Candor: The faction for the honest. They believed lies caused war.
Abnegation: The faction for the selfless. They believed selfishness caused war.
Amity: The faction for the peaceful. They believed recklessness/riots caused war.
Dauntless: The faction for the brave. They believed cowardice caused war.
